Merzbow - Some old live performances... (9888A and Live November '89)

Here are some lesser known 80's live performances by Merzbow. These tapes were re-issued in 2010, which is how I got 'em. These albums are actually pretty significant, as it was during these tours that Mr. Akita switched from his Tape Loops/Junk/Material Action style of making noise to his more well known electronic Harsh Noise. Metal acoustic music is an important record in Merzbow-history, as it was his first release to use tape effects. It was first released on cassette in 1981 and reissued in 1989 as a remixed version "processed through the feedback system with digital effects". Side A of the original tape was included in the Merzbox and side B in Lowest Music & Arts 1980–1983.

Solonoise 1 and 2 are albums by the Japanese noise artist Merzbow. The names mean "Solar-Noise", and were inspired by the book The Solar Anus by Georges Bataille. They were originally released on cassette in 1982 and reissued in 1989 as a remixed version. They were included in the Merzbox and Lowest Music & Arts 1980–1983.

Yahatahachiman

"Yahatahachiman" is a pretty obscure Merzbow album from '83. This was one of the first really "noisy" Merzbow releases, and thus proves rather influential. However, Masami himself dislikes the album quite a lot, stating it has too much of a "Guitar God Appeal".

Collection: 004

Collection: 004 is, as the title suggests, the fourth part in the "collection" decalogy. This is definitely the calmest Merzbow release I've heard, consisting of mostly improvised percussion and piano. It was re-issued in 2010.

Régalade is a 1984 Merzbow/L'éponge Synthétique album. It's quite a strange one- although Merzbow's early noise mixes quite well with the electronic drums. Definitely worth checking out!
